PURPOSE

We have organized with the goal of addressing the disparities in healthcare. Research shows that midwives can lower the maternal and neonatal mortality rates that have been rising in Michigan. We are working to increase access to midwifery care by creating more midwives to meet the growing demand for midwifery services and community birth.

Through innovative partnerships, we provide access to community education, midwifery led maternity care as well as doula and midwifery education and training. MCBI provides financial support to individuals to access to midwifery and doula care and scholarships for the advancement of midwifery practice and education.

It’s our goal for every family to have access to a midwife who makes them feel safe, supported, and understood. We will be a community-wide resource for childbirth and other complementary areas of healthcare, resources and support.

Our Values

  • Compassion

  • Autonomy

  • Justice

  • Evidence Based Care

  • Nurtured Connections

Our approach values human dignity, an individual’s autonomy to make decisions about their body and the need for nurtured connections throughout the childbearing journey.

Midwifery practice relies on the most current research and clinical expertise to best serve every person in our care. Midwifery care supports families through the process by providing resources, data, and experiential knowledge.

We recognize the vast healthcare disparities that exist and strive towards justice and equity in our community.

MidwiveS : the solution

Midwives are in high demand because of the comprehensive evidence-based care they provide. Michigan needs more midwives to meet this growing demand! We value teaching and learning. MCBI seeks to increase access to midwifery education through educational programing and scholarships. Midwifery students are involved in all aspects of the care in the Full Circle Birth Center as part of the care team, supervised by licensed midwives. Our midwives are licensed healthcare providers, regulated by the Michigan Board of Licensed Midwifery.

A HOME FOR IT ALL

The Birth Center in Norton Shores serves as a hub for MCBI, our partners and all of the joint services and programs. It is a warm & welcoming, optimized home environment for safe and trustworthy midwifery care.
